This year 2020 continues to be a challenge for everyone, including the world of Cinema. Some have been harmed personally and business while others have benefited by taking advantage of this global pandemic.

The new James Bond film No Time to Die, which “until now” will present Daniel Craig for the last time, playing the iconic James Bond character, could be on the verge of being released through digital platforms such as Netflix or Apple.

The # 25 film of the franchise, which due to the Pandemic has changed its release date on more than one occasion, being finally scheduled for April 2021, has caused MGM losses of between 30 and 50 million dollars due to the delay of the premiere, according to official sources such as Variety.

We cannot be sure if we will enjoy Daniel Craig’s latest performance as the sagacious and uncontrollable spy 007 by the appointed date, as director Cary Joji Fukunaga has stated that there is a possibility of further delays.

It is also not clear to us whether producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson would sign the agreement, who exercise control of the series through their company Eon. Universal Pictures, which has overseas distribution rights to “No Time to Die”, would have to financially compensate itself if this were to happen and reimburse the studio’s expenses.

It is believed that MGM could be open to this possibility but it is not yet a fact. Among the rumors that are running at the moment it is stated that he intends to find a deal of approximately $600 million dollars, but this is obviously a price that is considered too high for the streaming services interested in the James Bond film, considering that The Film has a production cost of more than 250 million dollars, and that has been promotionally partnered to help cover these expenses with firms such as Land Rover, Omega and Heineken, which do not seem to be very happy with this idea.

The strategy of selling the rights to a streaming service, something that is being imposed more and more not only due to the global situation of the Pandemic, but also due to the constant development and acceptance of digital platforms, has already been done by Paramount and Sony, charging up to $10 million for tapes like “Coming 2 America“, “Greyhound“, “Without Remorse” … which makes a question spring to mind:

Will MGM be able to take this leap and be part of the modernity that the New Era is imposing more and more every day?

Yes or no, we will find out later, here, in Dorian’s Secrets.
